What astrology can, and cannot, tell you about your child
By Tatiana Lima

Parents often arrive at a first reading with one of two feelings. Some are hoping for an answer: a description so precise that everything finally makes sense. Others are a little wary, worried that a chart might label their child or narrow what they could become. Both feelings deserve a straight answer about what a reading is for.
What a chart can offer
A natal chart is a map of the sky at the moment of birth. In the astrological tradition, each part of it is a symbol: the Moon for emotional needs and comfort, Mercury for how we think and communicate, Mars for drive and frustration, and so on. Read together, these symbols suggest a pattern of tendencies a person may bring into the world.
For a parent, that pattern works as a set of questions. The chart might suggest a child who needs time alone to recover after busy days. You can then look at your own child and ask: is that true? Often parents recognise something they had felt but never put into words. Sometimes they don't, and that is just as useful.
A reading gives you a new vocabulary for things you already notice.
What a chart can't do
Astrology is an interpretive tradition, not a scientifically validated form of psychological or educational assessment. A chart can't tell you your child's future. It can't choose a school, predict a career or say who your child will love. It can't diagnose anything: not ADHD, not autism, not dyslexia, not anxiety. If you have concerns about your child's health, learning or development, the right person to speak to is a qualified professional.
A chart also can't account for everything else that shapes a person: relationships, environment, experience, and the child's own choices as they grow. Every child develops through all of these at once.
Temperament, not destiny
The most useful way to hold a chart is lightly. "Your child's chart suggests a strong need for independence" is an invitation to watch and wonder. "Your child will always resist authority" is a label, and labels have a way of coming true because we expect them to.
That's why every reading I give is written in the language of possibility, and why your experience of your child always comes first. Astrology opens questions. It doesn't close them.
